Torus Mandala (or Geometric Eye)

Torus Mandala (or Geometric Eye)

A Torus Mandala is a geometric shape that is in the form of a torus, which is a doughnut-shaped object. It is often used in spiritual or religious contexts as a symbol of the universe or the interconnectedness of all things. In Buddhism, mandalas are often used as an aid for meditation, and the torus shape is believed to represent the continuity and cyclical nature of existence.

Creating a Torus Mandala, also known as a geometric eye, is a unique and visually stunning project that can be created using scrap pallet wood and a CNC laser. Not only is this a fun and creative DIY project, but it’s also a great way to upcycle scrap wood and turn it into a beautiful piece of art.

This is my inaugural reclaimed pallet wood sign! And I’m thrilled with how this one turned out. The design comes from a series of concentric circles overlaid with a series of identical arcs. I used Inkscape to create the design and a CNC laser cutter to do the heavy lifting. Aligning and gluing each individual piece proved to be quite meticulous.

The stain for the backing board is Minwax Oil-based Jacobean and is available on Amazon
